Pōhaku at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival Inside/Out Performance Series

Jacob's Pillow Inside/Out Performance Space
Thursday, August 8 @ 6:15pm​

Join Christopher for continued touring of his solo Pōhaku, as the work is presented as part of the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival Inside/Out Performance Series: The Land on Which We Dance | Indigenous Artists at Jacob's Pillow. This will be a landmark gathering of Indigenous dance at such a historical festival. This event is free and open to the public. Performing live with Morgan are Kumu Hula Elsie Kaleihulukea Ryder of Kaimikaua’s Hālau Hula o Kukunaokalā, and classically trained electric cellist Wytold. There will also be a Stone Gathering Workshop preceding the evening performance of Pōhaku 

Bethany Arts Community Residency

CKM&A heads to Bethany Arts Community for a week long residency to develop new project

Native Intelligence/Innate Intelligence, premiering later this season at Dance Place. This residency will be a focused time with music and movement collaborators of this project utilizing the space, environment, and community that this organization provides to its resident artists.  An informal work-in-progress showing, followed by a feedback session following Liz Lerman's Critical Response Process, will take place at the end of the week. This showing is open to the other BAC artists and surrounding community.

EMPAC Residency

The Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center

The design collaborators of  

Native Intelligence/Innate Intelligence will spend focused time to fabricate the set with the help of and resources available at EMPAC. Music and dance collaborators will join the team during the second week of the residency to begin integrating the design elements with the movement.

CKM&A invites you to join us for a virtual cocktail hour and watch a segment of Christopher’s solo work Pōhaku. Pōhaku is a dance theater piece that brings together storytelling, hula, modern dance, classical music, and projection design to explore compelling universal themes in the story of Hawaii’s native people, including land loss and fractured identity. Afterwards, join Christopher for an open question and answer session about the work, and how it connects to his upcoming premiere of Native Intelligence / Innate Intelligence
